The 24 year study into the DASH Diet has been published, and finds that healthy, middle-aged women who closely follow the DASH Diet have lower rates of cardiovascualr diease than women who not follow such diets.
The study started in 1980 and tracked 88,517 female nurses ranging from 34-59 years old (when the study began). They each reported relevant details 7 times during the 24 year study. The nurses were then ranked by a DASH score.
Those nurses who closely followed the DASH Diet resulted in a 24% reduction in heart disease risk and 18% lower risk of stroke than those with the lowest DASH scores.
